Video Interaction Guidance for Parents and Carers

Step-by-Step Guide

  • Your Helping Question

The Educational Psychologist will guide you in consultation to select a key focus of intervention. This will be phrased as the ‘Helping Question’, for example: ‘How can I help my child manage their feelings?’ or ‘How can I help my child feel safe when we are not together?’

  • Filming

We arrange a suitable time for the psychologist to film a positive interaction between you and your child. This can happen at home or using a room in your child’s school.

The psychologist takes the film away and prepares short clips to be shared with you.

  • Shared Review

The psychologist returns to meet with you as the parent or carer for a shared review. This is a consultation between the psychologist and you where the selected clips are analysed together to support reflection and solutions in relation to the Helping Question. This process is usually repeated three times. You have control of the final clips and may decide to share these with others or keep them private.
